It's another Sketch Challenge at JAI this week. Yay! Fabulous chance to try out my new toy. Finally got my very own cuttlebug. Double Yay. Lots of good fun there. I will need to use it alot to justify it's existence though! This is the sketch:

This card was made for my sweet little friend who turned six earlier this month but had a party today that my girls attended. The stamp is called Nora on a Swing by Swiss Pixies, and I bought it in Rockingham last year. I think this is only the second time I've inked it!

Just Add Ink 73 - Sketch

I do Love a sketch challenge. So I made an extra special effort this week to play along with Just Add Ink. I have some new treasures to play with too, - some SU! Love Letter DSP, as well as some paper doilies from a lovely shop that I visited in Hobart a couple of weeks ago. I am enjoying sticking to a clean and simple layout, the other card I made for this challenge included gesso and glimmer mist and met a poor firey end. So I thought I'd stick with simple for my second attempt and I would be happy to post this one to a friend - because that's my criteria! Thanks for looking.

Just Add Ink - 71. Black and White

Hey :-)
Beautiful simple colour challenge at JAI this week. Just Black and white. In my humble opinion it could be improved by adding Kraft (or crumb cake) but perhaps that is a challenge for another day.
During the week I was completely inspired by a skirt worn by this beautiful lady and I have totally ripped her off by machine embroidering onto my cardstock. Not a stamp in sight on this card - just black and white provided by cardstock and polyester thread! Thanks for looking, Love Amanda xx

Just Add Ink Sketch Challenge

Yay! Hi! Just popping in with my card for JAI's sketch challenge. This one was running for two weeks which means I got around to playing. Plus I think sketches are my favourite things to play along with. I turned the sketch on it's side and I used my little button flowers as colour inspiration.

I have also been looking after someone's cuttlebug for a few days so I've used an SU! butterfly die and top note die and a Tim Holtz woodgrain embossing folder.

I was so inspired by this post at splitcoast stampers and really wanted to try it. It reminded me of the 'blue willow' dinnerware that my Grandmother used. This weeks challenge at JAI fit the bill with "Just add Stamps" - yep, just stamps, ink and cardstock. And double sided tape! I had fun and I hope you like it. It reminded me of the days when I was too poor to buy punches and ribbon, in my early days as a demo. I even employed some techniques like masking and stamping off. Thank for looking.

This is just a quickie to enter Just Add Ink's challenge. This week, it's monochromatic.

So for my first one, I went with crumbcake (kraft), which is a bit of a favourite with me. I absolutely love the scrapbook page on page 112 of Australia's Stampin' Up! IBC and I used that as the inspiration for this card.

We have had a fabulous day out in Launceston taking in the sights of the arts festival. The city is alive with colour and people and unusual and beautiful and quirky things to find around every corner. Lots of things were happening this afternoon that we missed out on because I had promised a scooter ride around royal park, but I am really hoping to go back for an hour or two tomorrow to see some more. I'll let the piccies tell the story. If you're in Launceston I would so highly recommend that you pop in to the city and enjoy the sights :-)

Howdy do

How are you all on this lovely pre-spring day? I'm great thanks! We have had a fabulous day in the garden, getting rid of some rubbish which involved dragging all the useless building materials that we inherited with the house as well as the leftovers from our kitchen demolition. We actually filled up a skip before we could even start on the houselot of rubbish that has been residing under our house for goodness knows how long.

The complete upside of this is that now we have loads of space for all the spring planting that we are planning! I can't share photos just yet because of the sad lack of any sort of decent camera, however I have that under control in the form of a gift wrapped box hiding under the bed just waiting for a few more sleeps when it will be presented to my very unsurprised (and lovely) husband on his 40th birthday.

We have a heap of seeds which we are starting to plant in pots under the deck from the lost seed, heirlooms which means I don't need to purchase seeds next year but can just harvest seeds from the produce that we grow this year, unlike hybrids which are genetically modified to send you back to the shops next spring :-)

I also had time this afternoon for a little bit of purchasing (which - quite frankly is one of the most fun things about gardening). On the advice of my garden mentors I bought a Moorpark apricot and a stella cherry to plant near to our new fuji and golden delicious apples. All in all with the vegies, chooks and fruit trees, I am starting to be really pleased with the way our garden is looking.

We have four birthdays in August. Last week we celebrated Annabelle's 7th birthday and Kitty's 5th birthday with a princess party and various outings to places that were good for breaking in scooters! Next week we'll celebrate John's 40th and Lui's 11th birthdays with some good food, a firepot and possibly some new electronics...

Then the countdown will begin for our trip to the west, which I am conservatively estimating at about 10,000km! We are having fun deciding which way to go and how we are going to use the precious 31 days that have been alloted to us for this trip. We have stocked up on audio books and colouring in books, and when those run out, we'll still have plenty of time to look out the window, daydream and (gasp) talk!

One day when the treasures all grow up, I might even do some craft! LOL no, I went out last night and did some stamping with some lovely ladies, you can read about it here and there have been bits and pieces that have been completed which I would love to share with you when I have access to a camera.

Craft Books - two of my favourites

Hey again, wow more than two months have past since I last posted. It goes by so quick! I'm still happy, and busy {smile} and we've had another hospital trip - which is thankfully over now.

I just popped on to let you know that I'm still here and to share two of my current favourite crafty books. Normally I borrow books from the library, I find that the library normally has what I like to read and they are very user friendly. I jump online, tell them what I want and they organise for the books to arrive at the library that is convenient for me to collect them. However with both of these books, I would have had to wait at least six months to borrow them! So I bought them! Both these books have loads of cool projects, but what I love most about them is that if I'm having a busy day and there's no time to craft; just a read through is enough to give me a craft fix! They are fabulous. Feel free to visit the bogs of the lovely Kelly Doust and the Rad and Ace Pip Lincolne to grab some craft happiness of your own

I have made a couple of things from the crafty minx but I've only had meet me at mikes for a couple of days so I'm still gazing starry eyed at it and dreaming! Although I did have time to re-arrange the house today to make room for a beautiful mobile that is featured on page 104. When I get a minute, I'll whip it up with some delightful paper treasures from this lovely lady.
Hopefully it won't be two months till the next post, but if it is then I'll see you then :-)

Things that make me Happy :-)

We have had a HUGE couple of weeks. The children seem to have a few extra activities on as well as a scheduled hospital trip and then this weekend we've been to Agfest, the Princess Ball and topped it off with a quick trip to Hobart yesterday to celebrate the special mothers in our life. It's all been wonderful (except hospital...but that was necessary) but it was a blessing through and through to have a full day at home today.

I got to thinking about contentedness, something that doesn't come naturally to me unfortunately. I'm not sure that it comes naturally to anyone, or if contentedness is a journey without a certain destination. I always seem to want more, or be better or think "if I just have this, then I'll be happy". I'm hoping I'm not the only one that feels this way :-)

So today I made a concerted effort to count my blessings, which of course are far far too numerous to actually count. I am happy to have met a deadline today and posted off my THEAC family report (which is due tomorrow), happy that I have wood and we've had a fire going all day. I am extremely happy that my kids are home with me and that a lot of their time is spent this way:

My other little treasure was playing imaginary games in the garden when I took this. That is what makes her happy.

I was very happy to find some eggs in the nesting box from my little chicks that have just turned into pullets (I'm thinking the chooks are happy too because I gave them an ultimatum last week... eggs or soup, your choice). While I was out in the garden, I spied this:

Our Japanese maple trees in all their autumn loveliness. Crisp, sunny autumn days make me happy too :-)
And craft makes me happy. Especially crochet at the moment. I am thoroughly enjoying my new bamboo dishcloth and making and planning the next things...

Just add Ink #14

This week at Just Add Ink it's Just add vintage. I've spent a few days thinking about what constitutes "vintage", and I haven't come up with anything specific except that etsy's rule for selling vintage items is that they must be older than 20 years. So perhaps vintage means that we create a craft project that evokes feelings of a time that is more than 20 years ago but less than 100 (because that would be antique!). My dictionary defines vintage as: "the wine produced in a particular year" so that's helpful :-).
Here's my take on the challenge. I had a visit at Bev's Cross Crafts this week and bought the prima paper and ribbon. The image is a free digital download from here.

The other collaboration is the crochet flower, which I made but the credit must go to the extraordinarily patient Andrea who taught me how to do it. I made it using 100% Soy yarn which I am not reccomending because it splits and is murder to crochet with! Another friend, De is the proud owner of a new Stampin' Up! bigshot and being the lovely sharer that she is, dropped it in to my house for a holiday while she is away for the weekend. Thank you!!

The Shabby Tea Room, Week 5

Hey!

I love even just the sound of The shabby tea room. Sounds like my kind of place :-). This weeks challenge photo is a quilt and the challenge is to use squares, the more the merrier. My card is very simple, using squares in the delectable river rock, rose red and pink pirouette from Stampin' Up!, some more studio calico roses and a curly label punch with a hand-written sentiment. One of my biggest difficulties in doing challenges is what to do with the cards? I tend to like making a card FOR a person, and so this one is made for my Nana who is celebrating her birthday early next month. Happy Birthday Lovely Lady xx

Card Patterns Sketch 59

This is another challenge site that I am having my first go on, and I really like the sketches that I have seen. The only trouble with this one is that it called for an oval, which I had to do freehand (took three go's before I was happy with it)!It's a really simple card, and uses "really retro" from Stampin' Up! which I really love.

Glitter and Bling

This challenge is from Practical Scrappers and from what I read on their blog, it's about using what you have. That's great, because I have LOADS of bits and pieces to use! This card is not over the top I don't think, just some dazzling diamonds glitter from Stampin' Up! on the heart and some glimmer mist on the chipboard letters. Lots of good fun and I think it will make a good mother's day card (act surprised Mum!)

Inkspirations sketch challenge #21

You may have noticed from the other challenges, I opened a new pack of Kraft card stock yesterday :-) I've been down to scraps for a while now and it was lovely and Very Inspiring to have sheets and sheets of the lovely stuff! I love Makeesha's blog and her challenges, and this is only the second time I've entered one. I was trying to go with a vintage look for this card and I'm not sure if I've achieved that but I like it nonetheless.

I love this challenge - the design and the inspiration for the colours came from a quilt in the current issue of Better Homes & Gardens Magazine. I used a rose made from a tutorial on studio calico, so simple but so cool!

This is the first: a sketch challenge for Taylored Expressions. I like it except that when I look at it all I can see is a monster! It could possibly be rectified by making the biggest circle more round on the right hand side if that makes sense? Any way, I had fun and I do like the stitching and the finished card.

Our New Addition

Hello!

I would like to announce that we have yet another member of our family, this brings the total to people: 6 animals: 13!

This little lovely is "Miette", she is currently 11 weeks old and a little Moggy through and through. She will be (to the best of our ability) an indoor cat but I'm hoping that just her presence in the window will make the thieving sparrows too nervous to pinch all the chook's food. Miette was very nervy on her first day here but seems to have quickly settled into the role of miniature dictator, especially when she fancies company at 3 in the morning! The dogs are frightened of her and I think she took an unhealthy interest in our pet budgie, Derek when she spotted him this morning.

Having said all that, we have been wanting a cat for a couple of years and it is lovely to have a baby in the family again. The children are loving her cuddles and were particularly delighted when she plonked her small self down in the middle of maths books this morning.

I have a couple of challenge entries nearly ready to go so will pop back in later today or early tomorrow. Hope your Monday is treating you well, Amanda xx

Just Add Ink #11

Yay! Two posts in one day! This post is to enter Just Add Ink's challenge which is: make whatever you like, using anything you like! So I did. We went to a friend's birthday party on wednesday and I made her some little finger puppets out of felt. So for the challenge, I thought I could also use paper and make a similar sort of thing but quicker, because they can be glued together rather than each element stitched. One of the things that I find most attractive about papercraft is the instant gratification element of double sided tape and glue sticks as opposed to pinning, basting and stitching in fabric crafts (although admittedly the paper craft doesn't tend to last as long).

So here they are, a group of three little girls, primarily sourced from my scrap tin!

This is a close up of the flower fusion felt flowers, stitched on with french knots:

Not sure what's going on with this one's hair, might be a bad hair day :-(

Might be hard tell in the photo but they each have rosy cheeks from brushing a little blush blossom pastel on.

That's it for today, I'm expecting some tired and grubby campers home shortly and wish to greet them with some pumpkin soup and apple pie, so best be off and cook.

Embellish Magazine Challenge

Happy Easter!

Just a quick post to enter the embellish magazine challenge (for the first time!). I have enjoyed looking at these for a while and as well as a colour component, there's always a little extra challenge, and this week it's stitching. I do love stitching on cards (and other projects) and I love the colours that are in this week's challenge: I have used Stampin' Up's baja breeze, pink pirouette and kraft. This is the swatch photo:

And this is my entry:

I hand stitched the hand writing using hemp twine, as well as machine stitching the scalloped edge and the hand stitched panel on to the base card. I also used my friend's new Manhattan flower embossing folder on the baja breeze, so there is a fair bit of texture going on.

Ruby Wedding

Caution: Long and slightly boring post full of family photos and only 1 card.

The treasures and I had a few days in Hobart last week. It was a great opportunity for a change in scenery for all of us and a chance to catch up with some family and friends. Our two main reasons for going were to say goodbye to my best friend since I was a little girl who is moving with her hubby and new baby back to England and to celebrate my parents Ruby Wedding.

We left home early enough to get to Hobart Airport where we said goodbye to the Smith family for we don't know how long. I love them all so much and I'm pleased that they are are living so much in faith. They know they are where God wants them to be. Very Jeremiah 29:11 lifestyle. But sad for us (that's a bit selfish I know).

We had a lovely couple of days doing holiday type things - aquatic centre and museum, a visit with grandparents who have a pool and spa:

We stayed with my sister who has this adorable new little person in her life:

His name is Buster and he's a beagle crossed with a border collie. For a puppy he's very unassuming, most puppies I know just throw themselves at people, but Buster seemed to be quite shy and Very well behaved. He's only 8 weeks old though so he might grow out of it :-).

Then Friday was Mum and Dad's special day. We had a simple family party at their home (which is also my Grandfather's home) and everyone was there except my eldest nephew and my husband. I just wanted to use this forum to say thanks, Mum and Dad for the example you have set and to say how proud of both of you I am. (if that's ok?)
These are my parents:This photo was taken in December and I have used it here because it was a bit dark to take photos on Friday night and none of mine turned out. It's a beautiful photo of a very precious moment in time and it makes me smile :-)

We made them a card and I thought that since this blog is sort of supposed to be about papercraft that I'd pop it in too:

The card uses all Stampin' Up! products and the stamp set is called: "a rose is a rose".

Finally on Saturday, I wanted to go to Salamanca Market because it has honestly been years since we went. Unfortunately, I had forgotton how crowded it can be and the poor kiddies hated it. They found the whole experience overwhelming and quite frightening, being pushed and jostled. So we had an ice cream
(that made them smile again)
and went home to John. He was pretty happy to see us, even though he had been well fed by the lovely Torrents family - thank you xx
Wow, if you have read all of this, thanks. I just really wanted the world to know that my Mum and Dad have been married for 40 years and I think that that is Awesome.

Just Add Ink #10

What a wonderful week for me! My first blog in ages and I'm going to be floating in the clouds for a while yet with all the comment love And the top pick that came my way. Thank you all so much for your kindness and encouragement. Can't believe I've left it so long!

Well, I was excited to get started on the next Just add Ink challenge and eagerly checked the site on Friday morning and ... oh dear. Is that cameo coral I see before me? I'm afraid we are not good friends. I did consider just giving it a miss for this week, then this morning I thought I'd have a look in my paper box because I didn't think I'd have ANY blush blossom or cameo coral. But I found them. And when I put the four colours together, I started to get a bit excited about the possibilities. So excited that I made two cards!

This is the first one:

The skirt frill with the scallop edge punch was inspired by this lovely lady who used a similar look on my birthday card. The bird silhouette was from a patterned paper that I traced onto close to cocoa and then stamped graffiti like with some Tim Holtz clear stamps. The flower is 4 circles of card stock (two of cameo coral and two of blush blossom), and there are so many people who have used this that I am not sure who to credit.

Monday Afternoon Science

At the beginning of this year - our second year of home education with all 4 kids at home - I decided that I needed to be a bit more pro-active with subjects other than the basics of maths, writing and literature, geography and history. I've always found science to be vaguely frightening and wasn't sure how to tackle it. We have a quite groovy book: backyard science 2 (in the kitchen) and I thought we could just try one experiment each week from the book. So, it's nearly April and we've done about 4 but they have been fun! This one involved the science of building but I don't think my treasures even realised we were doing science :-)

We used two boxes of sugar cubes and a bowl of royal icing to make some structures. Lui and Maggie stuck to the basic sky scraper (Maggie even rendered hers). Anna tried very hard to make an igloo and she certainly had the right idea. Kitty's momentarily looked like a Dr Suess house before it broke (obviously before I could take a photo).

We have a quite disgusting mould project festering away on top of the fridge and a quick flick through the book makes me think we might do volcanoes next week. That sounds like fun, and I'm pretty sure that's what it's all about.

Just Add Ink #9

Hooray! Back in blog land after a 7 month hiatus! Just add Ink is a very cool challenge site that I have wanted to enter for ages and this morning I just had to make the decision and I did it, Yay! It's a sketch challenge and I have looked at lots of them but it's been a while since I actually did one. Here's the sketch:

And this is my take:

We have had a very "grey" day here where I live and I appear to have an overabundance of basic grey cardstock so I used that as the basis and added some parisian breeze and urban garden dsp. The flower images are pocket sillhouettes and the sentiment is from sweet little sentiments. The bird stamp is a hero arts image I bought in Mogo.

Inkspirations Inspiration Challenge #11

Hey!

I haven't had much time for crafting over the past week or so, but I had to get up super early this morning to take a friend to the airport, so I decided to use the bonus couple of hours to make some cards while the treasures were all still sleeping.

Trawling the net, I found this inspiration photo on Makeesha's blog. It is a tricky sort of photo but I decided that I was inspired by the white space, and decided to work with that. I am often inspired by white, neat uncluttered space and we are in the process of painting our house white, but with six people in a not enormous home, there is always clutter.

I have finally dug out my new Tim Holtz stamps and used them. They are a bit more grungy that I thought but I love them and hope to use them on two special birthday cards, both my men have a celebration this week: Lui on Tuesday then his dad (and my darling) on Wednesday, so I will have some more cards to show you!

Traveler's Inspiration {five}

Hi, We're celebrating another birthday at our house today, our baby is four. I know it's a cliche but Man, it's gone fast! This is the card I made her Based on Tina's Traveler Inspiration photo. I knew I needed a card for Kitty and the photo reminded me of another photo that I had taken of Kitty back in January, so I decided to use that on the card and enter in the sketch challenge (two birds...one stone etc etc)

because it's her birthday tomorrow! (Happy 6th Birthday Annabelle!) When I first saw the colour challenge, my thoughts went immediately to my Stampin' Up! raspberry tart DSP, the colours are very similar. So I've kept it simple with my new butterfly punch, scallop edge punch and some ribbon scraps that I bought at this years Craft Fair in Hobart. Thanks for looking,

Traveler'sInspiration Challenge {four}

Yay, this is the main reason that I wanted to blog: so that I could participate in the various challenges from around the world. The lovely lady who runs this one lives in Morocco and the photo was taken by Savitri when she was in Germany! I'm not much of a traveler myself but I travel widely in books (regularly) and thought it was poetic to use a vintage book word on this card. I also inked up my Stampin' Up Linen Background, possibly for the first time this year. This is the inspiration photo from Tina

That's it for today then, I was just really wanting to get this posted while I'm still excited and new to this whole thing. I feel a little bit like a Kindy girl: not quite sure what's going on so I'm copying everyone else and hoping I'm fitting in! Do you remember that feeling from kindy or high school or any other situation? I do :-)

So off to bed, grocery shopping, an extra baby for the day and lots of baking to do tomorrow.

The First Post!

Hi and welcome to my little corner of the world! Its a beautiful day here where I live, even though we have another month of winter to go, it really feels like spring. That makes me happy! Making cards makes me happy too, and in honour of doing my first blog post today, I did some creating to share.
